Castec

Castec 99 (AWS 15.15 ENi-Cl)
Description
A 99% nickel bearing electrode which, when welded, gives a deposit that matches the colour of the cast iron and is also machineable.
Application
Castec may be used to weld all grades of cast iron.
Technique
In most cases Castec may be welded without preheating, although it is advised to limit the heat input by using very low amperage and or the smallest diameter electrode possible. When welding thick sections however the section should be preheated to 300°C and cooled off slowly. It is also advised not to make continuous welds but rather to use the “planned wandering” or “scattered” techniques. Weaving should not be done but rather narrow overlapping stringer beads should be welded. The piece should be cooled down to at least 100°C at frequent intervals to avoid cracking.

Castec 55 (AWS 15.15 ENiFe-Cl)
Description
A 55% nickel bearing electrode which, when welded, gives a deposit that matches the colour of the cast iron. With the lower nickel content, this electrode is more cost effective however it is not machineable.
Application
Castec may be used to weld all grades of cast iron.
